Description

Description

The City of Cape Town is wrapping up the Manenberg Road Rehabilitation project, which involved the rehabilitation of ageing concrete roads and improvement of pedestrian facilities to ensure safer, more accessible neighbourhood streets. The project replaced original concrete surfaces with long-lasting asphalt and upgraded sidewalks and verges to fully surfaced standards. Over 1.3 kilometres of road repairs were completed along multiple routes including Olifants Road, Nahoon Street, Vygekraal Road, Ohio Avenue, Thames Avenue, and Marico Street. Speed humps and other traffic-calming measures were implemented to reduce speeding, along with universal access upgrades at intersections to improve safety for wheelchair users and vulnerable pedestrians. The project also supported local employment with 14 EPWP workers contributing to the work on the ground.
