Mango Processing Plant Project

The Zambia Mango Processing Project (ZMPP) has the core objective of increasing the supply of the demanded mango products. There is abundant production of mango fruits in all the 10 provinces of the Country and about 70% of the production is mainly done by small scale farmers. The country currently has two mango processing companies (Chankwankwa Farms and food Processor Limited and the Comaco Limited). However, about 40% of these fruits go to waste annually despite the increasing demand at both local, regional, and international market. The mango trees are alternate bearing in the months of October to January of the following year and the fruits are highly perishable. Lack of capacities and advanced technology for processing mangoes in the aforementioned companies vindicates the need for a modern plant which will process these mango fruits into pulp, juices, dry mango chips and other mango products in order to cater for the demand of the mango fruits. This project is open for FDI through a Majority stake and will be developed as one of the agro processing sub sector within the Manufacturing Sector in the MFEZ, Lusaka Province.
