Description	The Margherita Thermal Power Project (TPP) is a proposed 1,600 MW (2x800 MW) pithead coal-based power plant planned by Assam Power Generation Corporation Ltd. (APGCL) in Tinsukia district, Assam. The project aims to boost power generation in Assam and strengthen energy security in the Northeast. A Detailed Project Report (DPR) was prepared by NTPC in 2019, and the project has an estimated cost of Rs 16,850 crore. APGCL has submitted a coal linkage request for 4.11 million tonnes per annum from the North East Coalfields of Coal India Ltd. However, due to insufficient coal availability in the Northeast coalfields, APGCL has been advised to reconsider the DPR and explore alternative coal sources from other coal companies.
