Description

Description

The project we are hereby presenting consists in the translation into Spanish, the publication and the promotion of seven high quality literary books from less-represented national literatures in the Spanish-speaking markets, focusing on literatures from countries at the margins of the European Union and how these margins and their overcoming define the continent. The seven titles belong therefore to lesser-used languages: Ukrainian, Estonian, Polish, Croatian, Bulgarian, Georgian and Arabic. Thus, the project aims at strengthening the transnational circulation of high quality literary works in the long term. The selected texts reveal the importance of margins (both physical and symbolic) to define individual and collective identity, and how this idea is expressed in contemporary European literature, showing at the same time its richness and diversity. These works are masterpieces by writers that have never been published in Spanish language before. Both authors and translators of the books selected are award-winning (EUPL and several National Literature and Translation Awards). The project is focused on reaching a diverse range of audiences, not only through quality translations and wide distribution in the Spanish-language book market (Spain, Latin America and US), but also through a strong distribution and promotion plan, adapted to the needs of each title. We focus as well on the Ukrainian displaced population. The overall plan includes off- and online marketing and actions (presence at book fairs and festivals, visits of authors, booklaunches with translators, book trailers, social media strategy...), with an special attention to the use of digital innovation (audio and digital books, metadata improvement, AI-oriented marketing tools). Ultimately the project intends to promote a transcultural dialogue across Europe thanks to the key role of translators and to build bridges among different European societies and cultures thanks to the power of literature.
