Description
Description | Alluding to our school’s official name (Maria Elementar), we want to transform into “Maria-EUmentar” during one week each semester over the project period. As Maria-EUmentar, we will be targeting central EU-related topics (e.g. history of the union, structure of the institutions, characteristics of the member countries, benefits of multilingualism, European cultural heritage and core values) in a collaborative approach spanning across theoretical and aesthetical school subjects. The overarching objective is to increase our pupils’ general knowledge about how the EU institutions work and how its core values might take practical expression in official policies, as well as to foster the notion of European Citizenship and encourage our pupils’ sense of belonging as active citizens of a modern and diverse Europe. Our main procedures will be to define, plan and enact thematic lesson content that our pupils will meet during the thematic weeks, in which we highlight the EU topics in various subjects. Apart from that, we will organize an annual event for Europe Day in May, where our lower-secondary pupils will present their works to their peers from the primary section. We will also host external invited experts with experience of working with the EU institution and conduct study visits to official EU learning sites that we have at disposal in our capital. We believe that this initiative aligns well with the Jean Monnet action’s objectives. Besides providing them a learning experience out of the ordinary, we hope that the proposed project will help make European matters more attractive to our pupils and encourage their active participation in society as citizens of the European Union. |
