The project entails the construction and operation of a 37-MWac solar plant located in Hardap region, Mariental municipality. Alten Renewable Hardap is the project company undertaking the development of the project on behalf of the sponsors - NamPower (state - owned) holds 19%, ALTEN Africa has a majority stake (51%), and local investors First Place, Mangrove and Talyeni (30%) led by 8 Namibian women. Once it starts commercial operations, scheduled for September 2018, around 112GWh of clean electricity will be injected into Namibia's national grid, enough to meet 3% of the country's energy needs. Financing has been closed with South Africa's Standard Bank and the subsidiary of Agence Française de Développement, Proparco for $50 million. Total investment cost stands at $70 million.
