Description

Description

The California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) proposes to preserve 22.2 lane miles of Class 2 pavement on State Route 1 in Monterey County, including gore area paving. The project would also rehabilitate one drainage system, replace Traffic Management Systems elements, improve lighting, address bicycle and pedestrian infrastructure, and upgrade guardrail to the Manual for Assessing Safety Hardware (MASH) standards. The project stretches from 0.28 mile south of the South Marina Overhead (Bridge No. 44-211L) to the junction of State Routes 1 and 156. Caltrans is the lead agency under the California Environmental Quality Act (known as CEQA). Caltrans is also the lead agency under the National Environmental Policy Act (known as NEPA). Caltrans has determined that the project qualifies for a Categorical Exclusion under NEPA and will complete that documentation before project approval.
