The project involves laying a deep-sea power cable across Bass Strait from north-west Tasmania to Waratah Bay in South Gippsland, Victoria, and then running through South Gippsland into the Latrobe Valley. The first stage has a 750-megawatt capacity, enough to power roughly 750,000 homes, and aims to facilitate the flow of renewable energy between Tasmania and mainland Australia, supporting the transition away from coal-fired power. |
