Project Summary - Context & overall objectives - MarLEM (Maritime Logistics Engineering and Management) has its genesis on a very particular identification of specific growing skills gap affecting particular knowledge intensive sectors, in this case Port and Maritime, such as skills mismatch between labour market needs and the output of educational institutions, and a lack of communication and cooperation between education and industry to efficiently align supply and demand. With its foundations rooted on previous projects in this area, MarLEM aims at addressing these specific identified needs and gaps, namely: • Skills mismatch; • Lack of communication and cooperation between education and industry. Based on this context, MarLEM’s objective is to design, structure and develop a Master Course in the field of Logistics Engineering and Management, applied to the large EU maritime-port space, with particular focus on the following areas of knowledge: • Strategic Logistics; • Business Analysis and Maritime-Port Processes Analysis; • Innovation and Entrepreneurship at Sea; • Systems Integration - Integrated Logistics; • Sustainability and Resilience of the Supply Chain; • Operational Logistics - Maritime-Port space logistics' domains; • Integrated Logistics Support; • Systems Engineering. - Work planned & main achievements - For the work planned, MarLEM’s activities will be properly aligned with the project objectives (general and specific). There will be five activities of technical nature / course development (from WP2 to WP6), and three activities of a more transversal nature (WP1, WP7, and WP8), which will deal with coordination / management, dissemination and follow-up, respectively. Specifically, MarLEM’s activities will comprise: Technical activities • Situation Analysis • Training Design • Training Planning • Training Validation • Training Certification Coordination / management / dissemination activities: • Project Coordination • Demonstration, Dissemination and Promotion • Follow-Up - Results & impacts - As further detailed in proposal's section 3.4, MarLEM will have the expected outcomes: • Joint Master Course program in Maritime Logistics Engineering and Management; • Collaboration platform between Industry and Academia; • A Knowledge Triangle Network involving Industry, Universities and port/maritime/education Authorities (IUA network). Based on the identified needs, it will have the following expected impacts: Skills mismatch • clarification of the skills gap, and the respective proper answer; • direct impact on the entrepreneurial capacity, and employability; • transfer and exploitation of knowledge throughout Europe. Lack of communication and cooperation between education and industry • improve communication and cooperation between Industries, Universities and Authorities at EU level; • create new synergies between education and training institutions • pooling and sharing of resources between different educational institutes and companies • proper equipping of industries in order to respond to challenges Target groups • Students, professionals working on port and maritime domain and professionals from other industries.
