Description

Description

The project Market-Based Agricultural Rehabilitation and Employment in Post-Conflict Iraq Phase II aims to increase the resilience of conflict-affected rural Iraqi communities in Anbar and Salah Al-Din by restoring agricultural production, market structures and the associated improvement of the livelihoods of the population. The non-governmental organization (NGO) Norwegian Refugee Council (NRC) acts as the project sponsor and implementing partner. The project supports internally displaced persons and Iraqi refugees who are returning or have already returned to destroyed communities (returnees) as well as households that were not displaced during the armed conflict with IS but suffered greatly and are now struggling to rebuild their lives. The project includes the rehabilitation of essential agricultural infrastructure and provides affected farmers with access to inputs, equipment and technical training. It supports the establishment or expansion of local agribusinesses to stimulate employment and agricultural markets and strengthen the capacities of all actors (including government agencies) that provide services to farmers. As such, the project aims to achieve both sustainable management of agricultural land and growth for the agricultural sector itself. The project follows a community-oriented approach that aims to meet the priorities of individuals and communities alike, thus promoting social cohesion. The inclusion of marginalized groups is always taken into account. This will in turn lead to communities and individual beneficiaries building their resilience and will therefore directly contribute to preventing further migration in the future.
