Marks and Spencer Group PLC is investing £340 million in a new automated food distribution centre located at the Daventry International Rail Freight Terminal in Northamptonshire. The 1.3 million square foot facility will serve as a national hub for long-life grocery products, featuring automation technologies such as pallet cranes, shuttle systems, and hands-free cage picking to boost efficiency. The project aims to lower costs, improve product availability, and support the expansion of M&S's food business. The facility is scheduled to open in 2029 and incorporates sustainability features including an EPC A+ rating, rooftop solar panels, rainwater harvesting, and electric vehicle charging points.
