Description
Description | The project includes the installation of new forcemain to connect the sole sewage pumping station in Marmora to the Marmora WWTP, a distance of approximately 760 metres. The existing forcemain was installed in 1974 and has is no longer considered to be a reliable duty pipe. The forcemain is the sole means of transporting wastewater from the village to the WWTP. We propose to twin this existing forcemain with a new forcemain of larger diameter and with a much longer service life. A new pipe will be constructed in parallel with the existing pipe, and will serve as the duty forcemain. The old forcemain will remain connected (but isolated) as an emergency back up only. The forcemain is located on Municipal property, running from the Cameron Street SPS southward to the Marmora SPS. The new forcemain will be upgraded in size as well. The existing pipe is 200mm in diameter. During wet spring weather, the pumping station cannot always handle the peak flows coming in from the collection system. The maximum flow rate achievable through the existing forcemain with the existing pumping station is approximately 3600 cubic metres per day. The Marmora WWTP was upgraded in 2008 and has adequate capacity to treat these flows, with a peak capacity of approximately 5000 cubic metres per day. Increasing the size of this forcemain to 250 mm would allow the existing pumping station to produce flows equal to the WWTP capacity and eliminate the bypassing concerns. This can be achieved using the existing pumping station. In order to ensure the new forcemain remains reliable for many years ahead, the wall thickness of the pipe will be increased beyond that of the existing pipe to increase the safety factor. |
