Description | Martelecom is the regional telecom operator in the Republic of Mariy-El. The company provides basic local telephone services. It also provides national and international services through Rostelecom. Martelecom was privatized in December 1993, after the formation of Svyazinvest, the national holding company. Svyazinform held 38% of the common stock, and 51% of the voting rights by 1998. The employees and individual investors constituted the remaining shareholders. The company operated 50,000 access lines by 1996. Became a branch of JSC VolgaTelecom in November 2002. |
