The project proposes a 358-acre expansion of the existing 1,400-acre Martin Marietta limestone quarry in Castle Hayne, North Carolina. The expansion includes protected wetlands and waters, totaling more than 700 acres. The expansion aims to meet the growing demand for limestone materials for construction in the Wilmington metropolitan area. The project includes mitigation efforts such as conserving 286.92 acres of protected wetlands and open waters at a 2:1 preservation ratio, stormwater management, erosion control, and a 50-foot wooded buffer around wetlands and open waters not directly impacted by the permit.
