Description

Description

Massachusetts lost over $500 million in federal grants for transportation and energy initiatives due to the federal government shutdown. Nearly $400 million of these cuts affected District 5 and District 7, which include most of Harvard. The Department of Energy cut funding to entities including MIT, Multisensor Scientific, Inc., University of Massachusetts, Boston University, and the Massachusetts Department of Energy Resources. Projects impacted include clean energy, enhanced transportation, grid modernization, solar power programs, and building performance standards to reduce emissions in Cambridge and Boston. National Grid lost a grant for the Future Grid project to upgrade the electric distribution grid, and Littoral Power Systems lost $4 million for a marine energy project. The shutdown has caused uncertainty and delays in these infrastructure projects.
