Massive Data Center Project in Box Elder County

planned

A massive data center project is underway in Box Elder County, Utah, aimed at supporting the anticipated demand for artificial intelligence infrastructure over the coming decade. The project is part of a broader expansion of data centers across Utah, which currently hosts about 50 data centers compared to states like Virginia with nearly 700. The project is expected to bring economic opportunities to rural parts of Utah, although there are concerns about environmental impact and long-term resource use. The construction phase can provide a short-term economic boost, but the facilities typically do not generate many permanent jobs. The project is seen as speculative investment based on projected AI demand.
