Master in Critical Development and Social-Environmental Justice

This EMDM application is to support the development of a joint master programme in Critical Development and Social-Environmental Justice (CritDev), which is being collaboratively designed by partner institutions in Latin America and Europe. This programme will engage with a diverse cohort of students, to ensure a multi-epistemic, multi-locational and multi-perspective approach to address the interconnected socio-ecological-economic global challenges and envision alternate futures. This programme aims to develop critical knowledge capacities among students to address global challenges, which is also in line with the EU Development Policy and the UN 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. This joint master’s programme is embedded within the specific field of critical post-development and global development studies. Through this EMDM application, the partner institutions will work on the following three phases towards building the joint master’s programme: in the first phase, the partner institutions will focus on the consortium building activities, setting up broad consultations with interested institutions in Europe and Latin America. The second phase will have five-step procedure. First, finalising the consortium details with specific focus on staff participation; second, developing joint mechanisms for the implementation of the programme, including the design and specificities of the joint curriculum; third, designing a joint promotion and awareness strategy to target potential students for the course; fourth, building a joint admission, examination and performance evaluation criteria for students, wherein the intake criteria takes into consideration the aspects of gender, ethnicity, class, profession and academic excellence; fifth, designing a joint administrative and financial management strategy. The final, third phase will be dedicated to the accreditation process for the different countries involved.
