Description

Description

In 2019, the European Commission launched a new strategy to tackle the climate change and environmental degradation: the Green Deal. It will affect all sectors of the economy and society, including energy. Unfortunately, there are significant legal obstacles that hinder achieving a sustainable, efficient, and competitive energy market. We want to help to overcome them by training talented graduate lawyers in the field of clean energy. To this end, we are presenting this project to raise the funds necessary to offer an Erasmus Mundus Joint Master in EU Green Energy Law. We have agreed on a two-year postgraduate course. All students should spend one semester in each of the participating universities to acquire a basic knowledge of the different energy sources, an in-depth knowledge of EU law and a specialisation in EU legislation on renewable energy. We have also agreed that we need to recruit talent, so that students can come from any part of the world, regardless of gender or nationality. We should therefore pay great attention to the selection process, facilitate their mobility within the Union, ensure that they have close contact with practical reality and accompany them in their job search. This project should benefit all parties involved. Talented students will specialise in an area of law with a great future. Law firms and companies will be able to recruit lawyers specializing in EU clean energy Law. Public administrations, consumer associations, NGOs, businesses and professional bodies will benefit from better legal advice. The transition to green energy, which the European Union wishes to achieve, will be facilitated. The three universities proposing this project are complementary and have worked together in the past. Université Toulouse Capitole (France) and Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona (Spain) have strong expertise in EU law and environmental law. The University of Stavanger (Norway) has a strong interest and expertise in energy law.
