Description

Description

The Matachewan Water Treatment Plant Upgrade Project will consist of various improvements to the equipment and the building to ensure that safe and reliable drinking water will continue to be delivered to residents serviced by the Matachewan Drinking Water System. The scope of the project is as follows: -Distribute tenders to engineers and contractors qualified to complete proposed work; -Update all control systems (chemical injection, chemical analyzing, pump control, alarms, etc.) and integrate into one operating system to allow the operator to easily adjust and run the water system; -Remove the existing well No. 2 pump, complete upgrades and repairs and reinstall; -Remove and dispose of the existing emergency generator. Relocate the new generator to the outside of the plant and size it to run all of the systems including both well pumps; -Provide proper intake and exhaust ventilation to protect employees when entering the building and ensure building temperatures are maintained to prevent freezing; -Complete modifications to existing building that will eliminate drafts, improve efficiencies related to heating and cooling of the building, eliminate frozen water and chemical lines; - Install automatic flushing device to maintain chlorine residual in Rye Street watermain; Presently the water treatment plant is manually operated and requires extensive adjustments by the operator. Automation of the operating system is the optimum choice as it will address and eliminate health and safety problems and ensure the continued delivery of safe drinking water to the residents. The age of the operating system poses an ongoing threat of equipment failure and requires repairs that are repetitive in nature. The proposed upgrades will allow the Township of Matachewan to operate the Water Treatment Plant in a cost effective manner, to deliver safe drinking water to its residents and maintain the plant in a manner that meets current provincial standards.
