Mathematical talent: Modeling, diagnosis, promotion

Building a sustainable network for institutional cooperation — this is the goal of the project, in which the universities of Bayreuth and Budweis cooperate with ten schools from Bavaria and the Czech Republic. On the one hand, it is a didactic research and development project of both universities. The main results are to develop a model for mathematical talent as well as didactic concepts for the diagnosis and promotion of mathematical talent, especially in secondary school pupils. This builds on existing results from psychology, pedagogy and primary school mathematics didactics and extends these results to the specific subject-related goals and contents of secondary education. On the other hand, the developed concepts are disseminated and implemented in teacher education in the Bavarian-Czech border area. Teacher training students and teachers in the school service are introduced by both universities across borders with diagnostic and funding concepts for mathematically gifted pupils. Thus, the project activities ultimately benefit the students in the Bavarian-Czech border area. They should be promoted in the best possible way by the school in their development. To this end, the universities of Bayreuth and Budweis take on sustainable teacher training and teacher training as well as the further development of school teaching as a common cross-border challenge. In the course of dissemination processes, the project results are disseminated and anchored in the educational system of the Bavarian-Czech programme area at various levels. Finally, the project provides a framework for the qualification of young scientists at the universities of Bayreuth and Budweis. Both universities aim to improve institutional capacity and combine research and development activities with the scientific qualification of academic staff (doctoral or post-doctoral researchers). In total, a wide range of country-connecting meetings between students, teachers and academics take place. New forms of cooperation are being developed and established: Seminars for teacher training students from Bavaria and the Czech Republic, teacher training events organised jointly by both universities from Bavaria and the Czech Republic, as well as research meetings of scientists. All these activities contribute to the development of a common identity in the Bavarian-Czech programme area and increase awareness of the common research, knowledge and education space.
