State water utility Sanesul is procuring the 30-year PPP in order to achieve universal sewerage service coverage in 68 cities in Mato Grosso do Sul. The project includes building the needed infrastructure within the first 10 years of the contract, and the subsequent operation and maintenance throughout the concession period. The PPP is expected to benefit 1.7 million people. The preferred bidder for the concession contract was Aegea Saneamento. During the 30-year concession, the winner will have to invest around R3.8 billion ($680 million), split into R1 billion for construction works and R2.8 billion for O&M of the sewage system.
