Description
Description | Sri Lanka is seeking new investors for the underutilized Mattala Rajapaksa International Airport near Hambantota. The airport has faced operational struggles and limited air traffic since its inauguration in 2013. After a failed 30-year lease proposal involving India and Russia, Sri Lanka has launched a fresh investment drive to attract private and foreign partners to reposition the airport as a hub for cargo, maintenance, and tourism-linked operations. The project aims to diversify airport operations beyond passenger flights to include air cargo logistics, aircraft maintenance, charter flights, and aviation training, aligning with regional aviation growth and economic reforms. |
