Mattapan Square Rework Project

planned

The Mattapan Square project aims to reconnect two long-separated sides of Mattapan, improve access to natural resources, and enhance multimodal transportation networks to advance the environmental, social, and economic well-being of Mattapan residents. The project was awarded a $2 million grant through the Department of Transportation's Reconnecting Communities Pilot (RCP) program on January 10, with a total estimated cost of $16 million. However, the federal government has retracted the $2 million funding due to the project's focus on reducing roadway traffic congestion by preserving or increasing roadway capacity for motor vehicles, which conflicts with the agency's priorities.
