The Mau Summit–Malaba Road project involves a comprehensive upgrade of a key section of Kenya’s Northern Corridor — one of East Africa’s most important transport and trade routes — stretching roughly 243 km from Mau Summit through Eldoret to the Uganda border at Malaba. The initiative is being prepared as a public-private partnership (PPP) with support from the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB) and the Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA).The project will:Transform the existing two-lane highway into a modern dual carriageway, boosting capacity, easing heavy commercial and passenger traffic, and significantly reducing travel times for freight and people across the region.Incorporate advanced features like Intelligent Transport Systems (ITS) to improve traffic flow and safety, climate-resilient design elements, and road safety enhancements.Include detailed technical, economic, environmental and financial assessments — starting with a pre-feasibility study financed by AIIB and soon followed by a full feasibility and transaction structuring phase — to ensure the project is viable and attractive to private investors.
