Mauritania - Health and Social Affairs Master Plan Support Programme

The Health and Social Affairs Master Plan Support Programme is designed to carry out certain priority activities of the 1998-2000 three-year rolling plan. The programme strengthens the capacity of the health system to produce, at the lowest cost, effective and quality health services accessible to the majority of the population. The programme is expected to improve economic productivity by reducing early morbidity and mortality. Thus, the program should also contribute to the improvement of social well-being. The expected outputs are: i) Supply of and access to, quality care improved; ii) Sector efficiency and financing improved; iii) Disease control efficiency enhanced; and iv) Social and environmental action conducive to good health. The programme includes the following components: (i) provision and accessibility of improved quality care; (ii) improved efficiency and financing of the sector; (iii) effectiveness of the fight against disease strengthened; (iv) social action promoted and the environment conducive to improved health.
