Mauritania - Poverty Reduction Project

The Poverty Reduction Project is the Bank Group's second intervention in the area of poverty reduction, following the project to support the social dimensions of structural adjustment. It aims to contribute to poverty reduction in Mauritania. The project is a trigger effect for a micro-finance dynamic in the country, through the multiplication of microfinance structures across the country, the increase in the number of members of these MFIs, and policy dialogue around microfinance and microenterprise issues. The expected outputs of the project are (i) c creation of savings and credit unions (CAPEC) and a micro-enterprise support unit (AMEL), (ii) training of CAPEC managers and (iii) capacity building of partner micro-finance institutions (MFIs) and project beneficiaries.
