Mauritius- Technical Assistance and capacity development for Dam development

The project will directly support the preparation of dam projects that will increase water production capacity for economic and social purposes. It will contribute to the water security commitment of the Government of the Republic of Mauritius (GRM) with the following objectives: to improve the water management system; provide sustainable drinking water for all users; minimize unbilled water; and increase storage capacity, which will help the country build resilience to climate change and variability. Its purpose is to strengthen the technical review capacity of the Ministry of Energy and Public Utilities (MEPU) in the planning, design and implementation of dams. Three experts, namely an expert in geology, an expert in dam design and construction and a hydrologist will be recruited through this support. The latter will form the Dam Revision Panel (DRPoE) will be attached to MEPU and provide overall advisory services from onset of planning for project implementation through the initial phase of operations of the constructed facilities.
