Mayakan Pipeline Phase 2

This project consisted of the extension of a 730-km transmission gas pipeline from Ciudad Pemex, Tabasco, to power plants in Campeche and Yucatan. The project was sponsored by TransCanada Pipelines (62.5%), InterGen (32.5%), and Gutsa Construcciones (5%), which created the special purpose company Energia Mayakan S. de R.L. de C.V. The initial pipeline was completed in 1999 (ID# 780) and involved an investment of $266 million. The regulatory agency Comision Reguladora de Energia (CRE) awarded the contract in April 1997. In December 2000, TransCanada sold its stake in the project to GDF Suez. Later on, Gutsa also divested its stake in the project to GDF Suez, and GE Energy Financial Services acquired InteGen's 32.5% shareholding. In June 2013, the sponsors announced the investment of US$ 136 million to expand the pipeline financed with the sponsors' equity. The extension was set to run 75 km from the Nuevo Pemex Gas Processing Plant owned by Pemex Gas y Petroquímica Basica (PGPB) in Nuevo Pemex (Tabasco) and the existing Mayakan pipeline in Macuspana (Tabasco). In July 2016, GE Energy Financial Services closed the sale of its 32.5% stake in Energia Mayakan to Mexico Infrastructure Partners.
