Mayflower Wind is an offshore wind project located in federal waters about 20 miles south of Nantucket, Massachusetts. It involves the installation of turbines and landing power cables at Brayton Point, a former coal plant site in Somerset, Massachusetts. The project has secured over 1,200 MW of committed capacity through power purchase agreements, including a recent 400 MW agreement under Massachusetts' 83C III offshore wind procurement. The project aims to generate enough electricity to power 800,000 Massachusetts homes annually and significantly reduce greenhouse gas emissions. It is a joint venture between Shell New Energies and Ocean Winds, and includes economic development commitments such as job creation and local investment.
