Description

The project involves the development, construction and operation of 50MW phase I of 58.6MW Mazar-e-Sharif Gas-Fired Power Plant near the city of Mazar-e-Sharif, in the north-western region of Afghanistan. The plant developer Afghan Power Plant Company is owned by Ghazanfar Group. The energy will be sold on a take-or-pay basis to Da Afghanistan Breshna Sherkat under a 20-year Power Purchase Agreement (PPA). The project cost is $ 75 million, of which $7.4 million in equity and $ 67.6 million in loan from International Finance Corporation. IFC's participation includes $23.8 million senior loan, $1.5 million client risk-management swap and assembling $43.8 million in parallel loans as mandated lead arranger. MIGA provided a $48.7 million political risk insurance and International Development Association (IDA) provided $12 million guarantee.
