Description
Description | The mBank New Horizons International Film Festival takes place in Wroclaw, Poland. The festival was established in 2001 as a platform to present cinema that seeks new forms of expression. The festival’s goal is to present the latest trends in contemporary artistic film, discover and promote lesser known, mainly European filmmakers, as well as educating viewers. The application concerns the 23rd and 24th festival editions, which will be held in hybrid form on the following dates: - 23rd mBank NH IFF: 20-30.07.2023 (offline); 20.07-6.08.2023 (festival online platform with national access); - 24th mBank NH IFF: 18-28.07.2024 (offline); 18.07-4.08.2024 (festival online platform with national access). The 2023 and 2024 mBank New Horizons IFF will include around 500 films in total of which over 60% are European non-national productions. Despite its demanding repertoire, the festival draws large audiences. Over the years, mBank New Horizons has become the most popular festival in Poland and one of the most popular in Central and Eastern Europe. In 2023 and 2024, our goal is to, once again, reach around 115,000 participants. Some of the most important festival elements include retrospectives of European filmmakers – visionaries and experimental directors, and national reviews. The 2023 and 2024 will contain: 2023 – retrospectives of Alain Robbe-Grillet (France) and Alice Diop (France) and focus on Portugal cinema; 2024 – retrospective of Margaret Tait (UK) and focus on new Balkan cinema. The festival will expand its educational repertoire to include approximately 200 meetings with festival guests as well as lectures, discussion panels and master classes. Industry events will include among others: the 14th and 15th New Horizons Studio+, which is a series of workshops for young producers and directors from European countries, as well as the 12th and 13th Polish Days – a forum for presenting Polish movies, with the participation of European film industry professionals. |
