McDermitt Caldera Lithium Mining Exploration Project

An exploratory lithium mining project approved by the Bureau of Land Management to conduct drilling on 7,200 acres of federal land in the McDermitt Caldera, southeast Oregon. The project is the first step toward developing a full-scale lithium mine in an area that is prime habitat for the greater sage grouse. The project includes building about 22 miles of roads and drilling up to 168 holes. The mining company, Jindalee Resources Ltd., is in early exploratory stages and aims to minimize environmental impact, especially on sage grouse habitat.
