McEwing Bridge Replacement

The project will replace the one-lane McEwing Bridge over Mill Creek with a new, two-lane 52.4 metre structure, and reconstruct 157.6 metres of roadway approaching the bridge in Saugeen Shores, Ontario. The project will remove the existing bridge and replace it with a new structure that includes parapet walls, approach slabs, a concrete deck on steel girders, railings, a guide rail and barrier system. The approaches to the bridge will be reconstructed in both directions with wider lanes and shoulders with retaining walls added to accommodate the change in grade. The project will result in a safer and more reliable bridge that will allow the crossing to re-open seeing that it has been closed due to its deteriorating condition. The new structure will provide a secondary route through the community, which will be especially useful for Bruce Power employees and suppliers when Highway 21 is closed due to blowing snow. Farmers will also be able access fields on either side of Mill Creek more easily. In addition, the project will reduce operation and maintenance costs, extend the life of the asset and accommodate both drivers and cyclists.
