Description
Description | Cipher Digital plans to build a hyperscale data center on a 300-acre site north of downtown Riesel, Texas, near the Sandy Creek coal-fired power plant. The data center could use up to 500 megawatts of power, equivalent to the usage of 100,000 Texas homes on a peak summer day. The project has been in planning for over two years and is seeking approval to connect to the Texas state electric grid. The company is exploring water supply options for cooling, including ground or surface water and recycled water, but will not use Riesel city water. The data center is expected to generate an average of $13 million in tax revenue annually over a decade. |
