The COVID-19 pandemic is having a significant impact on communities in the Palestinian territories. Economic activities are even more restricted than before, which is causing unemployment to continue to rise. Municipal income is declining, meaning that ongoing operating costs cannot be covered and basic municipal services cannot be adequately provided. The aim of the project is to provide rapid and effective support to communities in creating short-term employment through labor-intensive municipal measures, maintaining municipal services and strengthening resilience to the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic. A very constructive and successful collaboration has existed for years with the project sponsor, the Municipal Development and Lending Fund (MDLF). As part of the ongoing municipal development program MDP III, a special COVID-19 response component was set up through which the COVID-19 emergency aid program can be implemented very quickly. In total, around 3.7 million citizens of the currently 154 Palestinian municipalities, which make up around 75% of the total Palestinian population, can benefit from the funds provided.
