Description | MediaResilience project aims at strengthening a free, diverse, and pluralistic news media landscape and promoting quality journalism with emphasis on enhancing quality media outreach to the most vulnerable groups in society susceptible to disinformation. The proposal focuses on the following EU countries, which have been threatened by multiple vulnerabilities as relates to media freedom, quality of democracy, and potential resilience to disinformation – Bulgaria, Croatia, Greece, Hungary, and Slovenia. The proposal envisages 1) funding to third parties scheme for media entities and investigative journalism and 2) capacity building to increase knowledge and skills for promoting democracy and civic engagement in ever changing and challenging, including technologically, economically and legally, media landscape. The main target groups for the re-granting and capacity-building will be independent media entities working to promote democracy, pluralism, social inclusion, human rights, media literacy, intercultural dialogue, EU values and help keep decision-makers accountable. The project will 3) inform and involve stakeholders and key audiences in the selected countries and across the EU about the project results, knowledge and lessons learnt and will foster collaboration and shared learning through a repository of case studies and best practices. About 30 media organisations will be directly supported for the amount of up to 60 000 EUR each. Through the communication and dissemination activities the project outcomes would be made directly available to up to 300 journalists and more than 400 participants in the events. Overall the project will incapacitate the target groups to resist fake news; will enhance access to quality journalism and information, will restore and increase trust in media and will contribute to decreasing of polarization in society. This will facilitate social inclusion and intercultural understanding among all vulnerable groups in society. |
