Description

Description

Iraq’s Medical City Complex project is all the more meaningful in that it is not only a mega-sized medical complex but also the first overseas hospital constructed by Hyundai E&C.The Iraqi government promoted so-called the 2005 Project aimed to build a cutting-edge medical complex in downtown Baghdad by 2005 as part of the state’s economic development plan. Hyundai E&C received an order to conduct Phase 2 of the Medical City Complex project whose contract costs reached 327 million dollars, one of the ten largest construction contracts in the Middle East region in 1980. Korea’s primary builder constructed a total of nine departments including a pediatrics department, a general department and a 20-storey surgical department with 1,200 beds. The best features of the Medical City Complex included up-to-date medical technologies such as the automatic prescription transfer system based on smooth communication among departments, transport devices which automatically move medical wastes generated during operations and other medical treatments to an incineration site, and delivery devices for bed sheets and patient gowns. As it served as a key hospital for allied forces of the Iraq War as well as Iraqi people, the Medical City Complex has been maintaining its reputation as the state’s best hospital.
