Description

Description

Modern medical research relies on multidisciplinary collaboration, yet existing academic training creates a critical gap between clinical practice and biomedical research. Medical doctors are primarily trained for patient care, with limited exposure to research methodologies, while scientists and engineers often lack the human biology and disease perspective necessary for translational and clinical research. MRI aims to bridge this gap by delivering a fully integrated Erasmus Mundus Joint Master Degree (EMJMD) organized by a consortium involving the Lisbon School of Medicine, University of Lisbon (Portugal), Humanitas University (Italy), Macau University for Science and Technology (Macau, China) and Universidade Federal do Rio de Janeiro (Brazil). MRI is designed to equip students with the knowledge and hands-on experience needed to excel in biomedical, translational, and clinical research. MRI is tailored for medical doctors who want to become physician-scientists, and life scientists and engineers seeking to specialize in medical research. MRI prioritizes active learning and innovation, integrating experimental project-based training with modern AI-driven methodologies. The goal is to help students develop the skills to independently conduct high-impact research in a rapidly evolving scientific landscape, fostering a new generation of multidisciplinary researchers capable of translating scientific discoveries into advancements in healthcare. Graduates will be prepared to either 1) pursue a PhD in biomedical sciences, clinical research, or bioengineering; or 2) immediately enter the workforce in biotechnology, pharma, and healthcare industries as research scientists, clinical trial methodologists and coordinators, or biomedical data analysts.
