Life science is one of the most important sectors in the ÖKS region and also a sector where, through the long-standing cross-border cooperation, we have created a position among the strongest life science clusters in Europe when it comes to innovation. However, the region is a small part of the world and the need for companies to think directly internationally is great. This means that internationalisation is an important part of the development journey even for early companies and here the innovation support system’s organisations must be well-developed and well-trained to meet new challenges at the companies. There are today many actors working on this, but we see a need to develop new collaboration, coordination and competence development with a special focus on early companies. In this pre-project, the project partners want to map and deepen our knowledge of potential partners, needs for skills development, existing initiatives and opportunities for collaboration – all to promote innovation for smart and sustainable economic transformation and strengthen global competitiveness within ÖKS. The project will be run by SmiLe Incubator and Medicon Valley Alliance, which together represent a deep knowledge and experience in guiding start-ups and the life science ecosystem around Öresund. The project will carry out three key activities with relevant stakeholders and other organisations: to analyse the current situation around support for internationalisation (what already exists, what previous initiatives have shown, where there are gaps), to examine the partner landscape and to identify potential regional partners and their respective areas of expertise (which are relevant partners, what are their needs), and to determine the target group of the main project (which types of organisations, what geography in the ÖKS area, and how can the innovation ecosystem be developed). These results together will be used to build a partnership and to develop a structure for the future project – which will then develop up-to-date programs for business support organisations so that they can best help new businesses and startups with their internationalisation needs.
