MedDMO aims to continue its role as the EDMO hub for the European Southeast borders, covering Greece, Cyprus, and Malta. Beyond their geographic proximity, these countries face similar challenges from disinformation campaigns that seek to polarize EU debates on various social and political issues. MedDMO brings together research, fact-checking, and media organizations with internationally recognized expertise in disinformation and deep engagement in the media ecosystems of these three nations. The multidisciplinary consortium is well-equipped to support the research, technological, and operational efforts required to detect, analyze, and expose harmful disinformation campaigns while addressing their societal and democratic impacts. Since its inception, MedDMO has successfully delivered hundreds of fact-checks, developed educational and media literacy material, and provided critical insights through analytical reports. In its next phase, MedDMO aims to expand these efforts by producing daily fact-checks, conducting cross-border investigations, and organizing targeted media literacy campaigns to empower citizens and professionals alike. Media literacy is central to MedDMO’s mission, aiming to raise awareness and build resilience among citizens and media to combat disinformation. Partners will incorporate training material into the curricula of leading journalism departments and organize targeted campaigns for diverse audiences. MedDMO will also address national and community-specific needs, supporting national authorities through its established communication channels to effectively engage stakeholders across the three countries. Finally, MedDMO’s operations will be seamlessly integrated with EDMO’s infrastructure and closely coordinated with other EDMO hubs, ensuring a continuous flow of investigative research while fostering shared methodologies and workflows.
