Description | The Medog Dam is the world's largest hydropower project being constructed on the Yarlung Tsangpo river in Medog County, Tibet. It consists of five cascade hydropower stations with a combined annual electricity generation capacity of around 300 billion kWh, more than three times that of China's Three Gorges Dam. The project is located near the Great Bend of the river before it enters Arunachal Pradesh, India, and is estimated to cost about $167 billion. The dam aims to harness one of the world's richest hydropower resources but raises concerns over water security, seismic risks, ecological impacts, and strategic leverage. |
