Description

Description

The Medusa subsea cable system is a large-scale infrastructure project owned by AFR-IX Telecom. It is a subsea fibre-optic network linking the Atlantic Ocean, the Mediterranean Sea, and the Red Sea to create a high-capacity digital corridor enhancing connectivity and economic progress across the connected regions. The system aims to reduce the digital divide between Europe and North Africa by providing high-capacity fibre connectivity to countries including Morocco, Algeria, Tunisia, Libya, and Egypt. It supports regional telecom operators with advanced data services, 5G network expansion, cloud-based systems, and bandwidth needs driven by AI and next-generation technologies. Nokia powers the system using its 1830 GX Series platform and ICE7 coherent optics, delivering tens of terabits per second per fibre pair with high-speed, low-latency connectivity and efficient cost and power performance.
