The project will make the exhibition on the history of the Tachau region in the Stadtmuseum Weiden (Tachau Heimatmuseum) and the exhibition of the Museum of the Bohemian Forest in Tachov more useful for visitors on both sides of the border. Description

Description

The project will make the exhibition on the history of the Tachau region in the Stadtmuseum Weiden (Tachau Heimatmuseum) and the exhibition of the Museum of the Bohemian Forest in Tachov more useful for visitors on both sides of the border. The project aims to turn both museums into places of “knowledge” about the history of the Tachau district and a meeting place for those interested in history. For this purpose, the museum in Tachov will receive a new permanent exhibition, which will better reflect the common history of Germans and Czechs in this space. This exhibition makes an important contribution to the preservation of cultural heritage in the border area Tachau — Oberpfalz. It will reflect important events, personalities and the special way of living (especially the mother-of-pearl processing unique in Bohemia) in this region. The content of the exhibition is based on the cooperation of both partners. It follows on from the Tachau exhibition in Weiden; however, the area at the centre of the exhibition in Tachov is significantly larger than the region in the focus of the Tachau Heimatmuseum in Weiden. The objectives of the project are further fulfilled by bilingual special exhibitions: 2019 on small stone monuments of the Bohemian/Upper Palatinate Forest, 2020 then about excursion destinations in the dt.-chech. Border area. The Museum in Weiden will create a guide in German and Czech for its permanent exhibition. This significantly increases its scope of activity, especially to the Czech Republic, and is complemented by an invitation to the museum in Tachov. In both museums, roll-ups with information about the partner institutions are placed. The museums organise a German-Czech museum night in Weiden in May 2019. This is included in the budget of the Bavarian partner, but the employees from Tachau contribute to the programme in many ways and thus reach the Czech public. The museum will meet those interested in history on both sides of the border, who will remain in contact with both institutions in the future. The mutual presentation and promotion of the museums serves an important purpose. Only with the visit of both exhibitions (in Tachov and Weiden) does the visitor really receive objective information about the historical development of the region. The target group is the inhabitants and visitors of the Tachau region and the Upper Palatinate. The project increases the attractiveness of the area, opens up previously little attention to information, materials and collection objects. It thus supports the preservation of the region’s cultural heritage and contributes to the strengthening of regional identity as well as to the development of tourism and historical education in the assisted area. The project also supports an effective exchange of experience between museum professionals in the fields of science, presentation, education and communication of complex historical contexts.
