Description

Grid Connected Infrastructure LLC (GCI) has sold a 100-MW/200-MWh battery energy storage system (BESS) project in Texas to a local unit of Thailand-based energy generation and distribution company Banpu Power PCL (BKK:BPP). The project, dubbed Megamouth, is located in the ERCOT Houston zone, characterized by increasing power demand, congestion, and growing renewable penetration. The facility targets commercial operation in the fourth quarter of 2027. GCI will remain the landowner of the BESS site and the project will operate under a long-term lease. The transaction was carried out through Banpu Power US Corporation, with Ascend Analytics advising GCI on the deal through the Ascend Energy Exchange. Founded in 2022, GCI specializes in battery storage development, and the Megamouth scheme marks the company’s first project sale since its inception. BPP is a power generator with a portfolio of thermal and renewable power businesses across the Asia-Pacific region, including Thailand, Laos, China, Japan, Vietnam, Australia, and the US.
