Meghalaya Off-Street Parking Grant-in-Aid Scheme

The Urban Affairs Department of Meghalaya launched a grant-in-aid scheme to develop off-street parking infrastructure in Shillong. This initiative is part of the Meghalaya Parking Policy for Urban Areas, 2025, aimed at reducing traffic congestion caused by unregulated on-street parking and increased private vehicle ownership. The scheme provides capital grants to eligible private landowners, Dorbar Shnongs, NGOs, and cooperative societies for developing surface-level, stacked, and automated parking facilities. The scheme is demand-driven, with proposals evaluated by a screening committee, and selected applicants will construct, operate, and maintain the parking facilities exclusively for commercial use.
