Meghnaghat Gas-Fired Power Plant

The 60-MW Meghnaghat Gas Fired Power Plant, located near the capital city of Dacca, represents one of the first private operated power plants in Bangledesh. The project sponsor, the Halla Business Group, will operate the power station for 20 years. The plant is financed in part through the Asian Development Bank and involves the construction of 230-kV transmission lines and substations to connect the plant with new national load dispatch. Communication centers and a 280-km distribution network were also constructed. The multilateral financing package also involves the establishment of two new public sector corporatized entities; the Power Grid Company and the Dhaka Electric Supply Company which operate existing transmission lines and distribution systems, respectively. The estimated project cost is $313.7 million.
