Description | The new Memphis Art Museum is a 123,500 square foot building constructed almost entirely from regionally sourced laminated timber, including cross-laminated timber and glulam beams. Designed by Herzog and de Meuron with architect of record Archimania and landscape design by OLIN, the museum is located on the Mississippi River bluff in downtown Memphis, Tennessee. It features a brick exterior referencing the Mississippi clay banks, a glazed street-level facade, a 10,000 square foot central courtyard, and a 50,000 square foot rooftop sculpture garden. The project expands gallery space by 50% and increases art-filled free public space by 600%. |
