This project will develop an existing space into a mental Wellness unit. This will allow the existing mental wellness unit, to be converted back into acute care beds. This will assist with occupancy issues and enable increased capacity to address surge issues related to COVID. The mental wellness unit will be able to manage specific program needs of the patients while being able to better address COVID related protocols within the unit. This project would create a 5 bed + 3 seclusion Mental wellness units with the needed service/ support areas. In addition there would be 5 additional single beds in a dedicated wing to support acute care needs including co-horting of COVID precaution patients. This project supports the pandemic response by improving safe effective care during COVID by: • increasing acute care bed capacity to provide added single bed rooms which are optimal for COVID patient management; and • better supporting mental wellness patients with a unit that has capacity to incorporate COVID related complexities
