Mero Permanent Reservoir Seismic Monitoring Project

Petrobras and its partners are investing about $450 million in the world's largest seismic monitoring project at the Mero pre-salt field offshore Brazil. The project involves installing subsea infrastructure with a wide network of sensors and optical instruments on the seabed to monitor geological structures and fluid movements. The first phase covering 460 km of cables was completed in March 2026, and the second phase with an additional 316 km of cables is underway, expected to complete next year. The system will monitor oil and gas output on floating production vessels and eventually send data directly to Petrobras headquarters.
