Description

Description	Meta is building a 1 gigawatt AI-optimized data center in Sturgeon County, Alberta, Canada, just outside Edmonton. This will be Meta's first data center in Canada and its 33rd globally. The facility will cover 2.9 million square feet and occupy 1,750 acres. It is designed to support next-generation AI systems with advanced hardware, network design, and cooling systems, including a closed-loop, liquid-cooled system with dry cooling to avoid continuous water supply. The project is expected to create over 3,000 construction jobs at peak and more than 300 operational jobs once completed. Meta is investing approximately CAD 13 billion (about USD 9 billion) in the site and an additional CAD 60 million (about USD 42 million) in local infrastructure improvements. The facility is anticipated to come online in the next 2 to 3 years.
